How much pension will I receive when I retire?
The level of your old-age pension depends on such things as your salary. It also depends on the number of years you have worked for your employer. The amounts are stated on your annual Uniform Pension Overview (UPO). You can find this in Mijn Pensioencijfers (My Pension Figures).
You can see the total pension that you have accrued with your Dutch employer(s) on mijnpensioenoverzicht.nl. This also shows how much AOW (General Old-Age Pension) you will receive from the government.

Am I accruing pension elsewhere?
There are three ways to accrue pension:
• with our fund: this is mandatory as long as you work for your employer in the Rhine and Inland Shipping
• with the Dutch government: this is mandatory as long as you live and work in the Netherlands (AOW [General Old-Age Pension]).
• the money that you save yourself for later -
I have another job. What will happen to my pension? And do I need to arrange anything?
If you are offered another job, you can transfer your accrued pension to your new (Dutch) pension fund. This is referred to as a value transfer. The pension amount that you accrued must then be higher than €497.27 per year, and you must have left employment after 1 January 2019. Otherwise, it will remain with the fund until you retire.
You can request a value transfer via your new pension fund.

You and your employer both pay an amount each month towards your pension accrual. This is referred to as the pension contribution. You pay around 1/3 of the contribution yourself. How is my pension accrual calculated?
We calculate your pension accrual based on your salary. -
I do not want to accrue a pension; I’d prefer more salary. Is that an option?
No. You are obliged to accrue a pension with our fund as long as you work for your employer in the Rhine and Inland Shipping. This is laid down by law. -
Can I commute my pension?
No. The pension you accrued with us remains until you retire. We manage your funds as carefully as possible. You will receive a monthly pension payment from us starting from your retirement date. -
I want to retire. When can I do this? And what do I need to do?
- We will send you a letter around six months before you reach AOW (General Old-Age Pension) age. You should then indicate to us which choices you would like to make for your pension. We will then arrange the payment of your pension for you.
- If you wish to retire earlier, for instance from your 60th, you should first consult with your employer to see whether this is possible. If this is an option, send us an e-mail stating the date on which you wish to take early retirement. We will then contact you.

What is the tax situation?
When you retire, you pay income tax over your Dutch pension and over your AOW (General Old-Age Pension), irrespective of where you live.
You should enquire whether you should pay this tax in the Netherlands or in the country in which you are living when you retire. This depends on the tax treaty between the Netherlands and the country in which you are living. Call Belastingdienst Buitenland (Tax and Customs Administration International) for more information: +3155-5385385.
